Purple Heart

purplejpg

Canon 300D , EF 17-40/4.0L USM @ 29mm , f/4.0 , 1/60s , ISO 400 , RAW , Flash + Soft Box

Purple is this week’s ThemeThursday challenge. This shot just melts purple to me, for obvious reasons. And lots of love to my wife for being both a beautiful, and patient, model. Hopefully it won’t be the last time!

The harsh light in this photo really makes the purples stand out. It made my lovely model a lot more pale and eerie than she normally looks! Also avoiding the standard portrait soft-focus gives an edge here that I like.

Welcome

Canon 300D , EF 17-40/4.0L USM @ 17mm , f/7.1 , 1/100s , ISO 400

The imposing detail of this door just begs you to come in and see what more there is inside. That must be the idea, as this is the Christian Science Headquarters in Boston, and the church is designed to be welcoming. And this is just a side door!

Light Rain

Canon 300D , EF 17-40/4.0L USM @ 17mm , f/20 , 1/25s , ISO 400

One of the first shots taken with my new 17-40mm f/4.0L lens. The wide-angle really makes this wet lantern stand out against the sea of early spring lawn. Water is so great to photograph. Too bad it’s not so great for camera bodies and lenses.

Canon 300D , EF-S 18-55/3.5-5.6 @ 18mm, f/6.3 , 1/100s , ISO 200 , PS7 post-processing for color and composition

One of my first “artistic photoshop” attempts, very simple, but I think effective. Shows just how much there is in plain light.

Canon 300D , EF-S 18-55/3.5-5.6 @ 38mm, f/8.0 , 1/1000s , ISO 800

This week’s ThemeThursday theme is oops. This is a tree that has taken the initiative to wrap itself around our back fence. I guess we should have trimmed it earlier….oops!

Extra Virgin

Canon 300D , EF 50/1.4 USM , f/4.5 , 1/50s , ISO 800

I love the colors in this photo. Technically, not perfect, but a good try, and a satisfying shot nonetheless. This shot was hand-held, so I couldn’t really get more depth of field (I’d already gone to 1/50s and ISO 800). This would’ve been a good time to have a tripod handy! Probably could have gotten a sharper all-around capture.

Canon 300D , EF 70-200/2.8L IS USM + Extender EF 1.4x II @ 280mm , f/4.5 , 1/320s , ISO 200

Little League on a warm spring evening. A valiant slide into 3rd with the ball bearing down on him. Safe!

Canon 300D , EF 70-200/2.8L IS USM @ 200mm , f/2.8 , 1/100s , ISO 800

This shot was taken at the USAG gymnastics regionals, level 10, held at MIT. The girls were mostly high-school age.

The thing that struck me about this photo was how alone she seems. Not upset, not happy, just alone with her sport. Gymnastics is such a personal endeavor.
