Weathered by Age

turtle.jpg

Canon 300D , EF 70-200/2.8L IS USM + Extender EF 1.4x II @280mm , f/5.0 , 1/400s , ISO 200

This amazing snapping turtle wandered out of our woods, and headed across the street. He/She would get frightened when we approached and tuck in his head, making him very cooperative for photos. I love the weathered, aged look that the detail of this shot captures. No real idea how old he is, but he looks like he’s seen many springs come and go.

Waters Edge

waters-edge.jpg

Canon 300D , EF 50/1.4 USM , f/2.0 , 1/200s , ISO 400 , EC-1/3 , RAW

This photo, blurry subject and all, really fills me with serenity. I like how the stick doesn’t draw attention away from the abstract shapes of the sand and water.

The photo was taken at Walden Pond in Concord, MA. The sun had just set over the trees across the pond, yielding the great lighting that sets the mood for the photo.

Another colorized shot, some flowers we received as a present.

Screech

Canon 300D , EF 50/1.4 USM , f/8.0 , 1.6s , ISO 100 , EC+1 , RAW

My first ThemeThursday entry ever! I’d love feedback. I hope to participate regularly. This week’s theme : noise. I think this photo evokes a noise that hopefully will make the viewer’s skin crawl.

Taken in RAW, converted to TIFF with Canon’s FileViewer, and then the background was desaturated to bring out the chalkboard. Curves were altered very slightly. Exposed up one stop because of the dark rug and chalkboard surface.

Signed With Love

bosendorfer.jpg

Canon 300D , EF 50/1.4 USM , f/4.0 , 1/60s , ISO 200 , Flash

Combining my love of music and new interest in photography, this is a shot of the inside of our Bosendorfer Grand. An amazing instrument, made in Austria (that’s the top logo), and signed with the Bosendorfer signature logo. I like how the shallow depth of field draws the eye in towards the soundboard and the signature.

Flicker

Canon 300D , EF-S 18-55/3.5-5.6 @ 34mm, f/5.6 , 1/125s , ISO 1600 , Flash

An early picture with my new Canon Digital Rebel from Christmas 2003. Also my first try at colorizing in PS. ISO was stuck at 1600, because I’d forgotten to drop it back down after some tests. But I think the noise adds to the gritty look of the fireplace.

First Entry

Monday, April 12th, 2004

Welcome to FountainPhoto.com. The idea here is to post interesting photos, photography commentary, etc. Well, really, it’s just to have a spot to post links to photos, other than my global family photo gallery.
