Inquisitive Robin

Canon 300D , EF 70-200/2.8L IS USM + Extender EF 1.4x II @280mm , f/4.0 , 1/100s , ISO 100

A robin in the front yard. Rarely can you get quite this close to small birds. Unfortunately, it meant shooting through the glass of a storm door. Maybe I like the personality of small birds more now that we have one as a pet!

Canon 300D , EF 70-200/2.8L IS USM + Extender EF 1.4x II @280mm , f/11 , 1/100s , ISO 100

A simple moon shot. Amazing it’s really up there, so bright and so detailed. If only I had a 400mm lens (my birthday is in November..hint, hint).

Three Pixel Colors

three-pixel-colors.jpg

Canon 300D , EF 70-200/2.8L IS USM @ 200mm , f/8.0 , 1/60s , ISO 100 , EC+4/3 , RAW

My favorite entry so far to the DPChallenge contest. This challenge theme: threes. I love the brillance of these colors, and the sharpness of the glass (and barely USM’ed too!)

The shot is of three bottles of cocktail mixers. The labels were taken off, and backlit from the rear two corners with 500W halogens. I adjust the colors only very slightly, and cloned out a few dust spots on the bottles.

Three Exposures, Canon 300D , EF 70-200/2.8L IS USM , ISO 200

A little triptych of some shots taken in our yard this spring. Not conceived as such, just tossed together three shots that might not have stood on their own merits.

From The Forest Floor

Monday, May 24th, 2004
from-the-forest-floor.jpg

Canon 300D , EF 17-40/4.0L USM @ 34mm , f/4.0 , 1/100s , ISO 200 , RAW

A shot for the Unusual Viewpoint challenge on DPChallenge. The shot was actually taken upside down, and then flipped, cropped, part was desaturated, and then the color saturation and constrast was upped a bit. Some dodging took care of the hilites in the bark mulch.

I think it gives a neat vision of the trees, and a unique perspective from the forest floor.

Banana Split

banana-split.jpg

Canon 300D , EF 50/1.4 USM , f/8.0 , 1s , ISO 200 , RAW

An entry for DPChallenge speed challenge, on the theme banana. This was the only idea that came to mind on short notice. A little silly, but effective.

Nature Framed

nature-framed.jpg

Canon 300D , EF 70-200/2.8L IS USM @ 85mm , f/4.0 , 1/160s , ISO 100 , EC-2

For this week’s ThemeThursday topic: frame. I thought this shot had a great mood showing the world outside our windows. Sometimes computer geeks like me forget to take a look outside once in a while.

Liquid Bread

liquid-bread.jpg

Canon 300D , EF 70-200/2.8L IS USM @ 100mm , f/2.8 , 1/20s , ISO 100 , EC+1 , RAW

This shot was submitted for the DPChallenge Habits contest. Certainly depicts my habit of fine beer on draft!

I wish I could have gotten a crisper focus all around, and fewer hilites of the light sources, but the lighting was just very tough to get right. This is the best I came up with. I do very much like the smooth mood of it, and the colors.
