About FountainPhoto

What?

Welcome to FountainPhoto.com, Will Koffel’s personal photography blog. It’s a place for me to gather images I’m proud of, give the occasional commentary on photography topics and techniques, and help drive my own photography to grow and improve.

To learn more about the gear I own, the books I read, and the sites I visit, hop over to the resources page.

Who?

I’m Will Koffel. (That’s Will, short for William ; and Koffel with a long-”O”, like “Koefull”) I was born November 11, 1977. I’ve lived my whole life in eastern Massachusetts, in and around Boston. I’m happily married to a beautiful woman who will sometimes submit to being a photographic model for me. We have a pet parakeet, who is much less patient about standing still for the camera.

I am not a photographer by trade ; capturing images is just a hobby, but I hope it’s one that will be personally rewarding for many years to come. I am employed in the computer industry, specializing in Internet application systems, dynamic web sites, server programming, and general systems architecture. Yes, I’m a geek. I hold a bachelors degree in Computer Science from MIT. If you are curious about my professional career, please grab a copy of my resumé.

My other primary love is music. I also hold a B.S. in Music Composition from MIT. I’ve been performing and composing for many years. I play piano regularly, both for my own enjoyment and in an accompanist role for friends. I am a singer, performing year-round with the BSO and Boston Pops.

When?

This blog began in April of 2004, but I’ve been interested in photography much longer. My mother enjoyed SLR film photography when I was growing up, and I had point-and-shoot cameras through my childhood. In college, I had a chance to take a course in scientific and strobe photography, where I learned darkroom skills and some of the equations behind the magic of lenses and light. After that, I purchased my first digital camera, and this site has grown from there.

Where?

I shoot in the Boston area where I reside, and on travels all around the country and world, when I’m lucky enough to get away and manage to bring my camera with me.

Why?

For my own interest and growth, for the benefit of my friends and family, and hopefully to brighten a corner of the internet with images that you will enjoy!
