Osaka Castle in Osaka Japan, once an intimidating double-moat fortress, now a nice museum and park.

Smoky Detour

Canon 300D , EF 50/1.4 USM, f/2 , 1/500s, ISO 800 , EC -1.3, RAW

My first attempt at the now-ubiquitous “smoke” photo. Took a few iterations to get the shutter speed fast enough and the background dark enough. For those who haven’t seen these shots before, the smoke is shot against a black background, then the photo inverted and colorized to achieve this effect.

One more fall shot (love the colors reflecting in the water on this one!), run through a virtual “Orton Effect”, as described in this post. Gives it an impressionist feel. I’ll have to try this technique selectively on some portraits.

A couple of shots from a Vermont brook on the slopes of Killington that by all rights should have been frozen the first week in January. One of the few benefits of a grossly warm winter is getting to venture outside for photos.

An absolutely beautiful fall Saturday provided an excuse for a walk in Harold Parker State Forest. Here are three photos, none of which alone capture the loveliness of the afternoon, but heck, that’s what collages are for!
